Scrubs is back after a 16-year absence, but what songs have featured so far in the new episodes? Find out below.
The sitcom was created by Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso, Shrinking), and it starred Zach Braff as the loveable doctor J.D. as he navigates life at Sacred Heart Hospital. It debuted in 2001 and ran for eight seasons, becoming a ratings hit and winning two Emmys, but a ninth season in 2010 introduced a new cast of medical interns with Braff in a supporting role. That season was unpopular with fans, and many of them consider it outside of the show’s canon.
The show is now back, with Aseem Batra returning as showrunner, having overseen the show from seasons six to nine. Tim Hobert had been due to run the show alongside Batra, but he left production last year due to “creative differences”.
Braff is also back, alongside co-stars Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes and John C. McGinley, and the first two episodes aired on Wednesday (February 25) on the ABC network in the US and on Disney+ in the UK. Subsequent episodes will premiere weekly.
The first batch of reviews for the Scrubs revival have been positive, with the new season sitting on an 89 per cent rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing.
Despite his enthusiasm to return, Zach Braff did admit last year that he felt “exhausted” by the time Scrubs came to a close. “We were starting to repeat jokes. Everyone’s pretty fried,” he revealed on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast. “We would do insane hours that people don’t even do anymore. We didn’t really have much of a life outside of it. So we were just kind of fried”.

Every song on the Scrubs reboot soundtrack
The new revival of the show retains its original theme song – ‘Superman’ by Lazlo Bane – over its opening credits, preserving the nostalgia that is central to the appeal of its return.
Scrubs was also known for its distinctive use of the indie rock of its era to give the show its alternative edge, with artists such as The Shins, Eels, Joshua Radin and Colin Hay often appearing as needle drops.
